Okay, this whole comic strip came from one photo I snapped at Comic Con of the DC booth…
Look at Superman. Look at that poor man’s dead-eyed, hollowed-out expression. The man looks like he got served divorce papers, a job termination, and a failed paternity test in a kryptonite envelope. Why is Superman so sad?? I had to investigate.
So I leaned into the silly parody series of strips I’ve been doing starring me at Star Labs as logistical support for the Justice League (literally mirroring what I did when I worked in defense). I decided to draw myself at Star Labs trying to cheer Superman up. Sometimes when you’re feeling down, you just gotta try out a new direction. Why don’t we have some stories about Superman fighting to stop Climate Change? It’s the thing that’s killing us all now. It’s the thing I write about most in Mark Trail. Everyone always complains how hard Superman is to write. “Oh, he’s boring. He’s a boy scout.” Sir, tell on yourself. What makes you think “boy scout” equals boring?
Do you think being kind to people and caring about nature is boring? Your inner child wounds are showing. Go to therapy.
Anyway, Superman is actually pretty easy for me to write especially now that I’ve gotten a lot of experience cartooning for Mark Trail. Superman is a dude who cares so much about the rest of the world around him he punches giant robots, freaky aliens and mecha Jeff Bezos in the face about it. Superman could just stay home and not bother with any of you people. The man owns a literal Fortress of Solitude. Why should be bother with any of us when he can just vibe in his family’s North Pole vacay pad? Superman bothers because he cares.
Yes, I know I have to see the New Adventures of Superman. Maybe they fix all this in that show. I’ll watch it soon. Forgive me. I’m busy.
Also, I threw in the tank mention for the exact reasons you think I did. I’m that girl.
This is fabulous - not least because of the “Star Labs” mug! 😍
