So I banged this comic out in record time this morning in response to the news of the tragic death of Yu-gi-Oh! Creator Kazuki Takahashi. Military periodical Stripes has just reported he was found off the coast of Okinawa after attempting to save three people trapped in a rip current. Wow, but also, yikes.
Last year I almost died in a rip current off of Ocean Beach two days after my birthday. I tried to shrug it off as not a big deal, but it’s obviously left me a little mentally traumitized. Oops. I wanted to take that trauma and turn it into tips by educating the rest of you on how to handle a rip current if you find yourself caught in one.
I just gotta say there is no way in hell I would ever attempt rescuing people caught in a rip current without the aid of a surfboard. A longboard if you got one, but a fat shortboard will do just fine. Stay safe out there.
This is a lecture we have in Florida all the time. I wonder if a fishtail board would make surfing better in Daytona.
The waves out there are a lot shorter than California. I wonder if an egg shape would be better for catching the waves there.
