Love, Joolz: My Rip Current Story
I almost died but I got saved by a ghost and a piece of jewelry
My rip current experience is actually much more complicated than this. But, I wanted to give you all a feel for the actual thing I went through. It took me 8 months even to draw that comic. The actual thing happened on 3/25/2021, the day after my birthday.
That was a terrible birthday weekend for me. Nearly dying was probably the fourth most awful thing to happen to me.
The worst part of this story I’ve never told anyone is how the lifeguards…didn’t do anything to help me. I remember how hard it was for me even to get to the point to ask for help. I never ask for help. So I began waving my hands like a crazy person to signal I’m in need of help aaaaaaaaaaaaand nothing. They hung me out to dry.
I had to save myself from the rip current.
This is why I never ask for help. It never comes when I need it.
So, not only did I have to heal from the trauma of nearly dying, but I had to get over the lifeguards totally blowing me off. They pulled up their stupid pick up truck after I got out of the water. After I got done doing their job for them. Those lifeguards pulled up with that vibe of someone about to judge me or scold me. So not only did they leave me to die, they were about to blame me for it and I was having none of it.
“I asked for your help and you didn’t help me!” I barked at those lifeguards as I quickly walked by. I was not interested in being judged for almost dying. The reason why these comics are so praise-heavy on Saint Christopher is because that damn charm did more for me than the actual people paid to make sure I don’t die. And I wasn’t even wearing it at the time. It was in the car.
If you want to slight someone, serve cake to their rivals.
And watch out for that rip current.
