I wrote this when we were deep in the 2020 pandemic and most of it still stands. I mean it’s not like the pandemic has ever ended. We never really even did a full two weeks of lockdown. Capitalists said “nah, bitch back to work with you” and that’s what happened. But whatever. Idiots are gonna say the Coronavirus Pandemic lasted from 2020-2022 and I will spend the rest of my days rolling my eyes at that.
The fact remains: surfing is still a great socially distanced activity.
As a surfing safety measure, everyone is told to say well over 6 ft away from each other. This is not because we’re worried about passing a respiratory infection around, but because we don’t want a fiberglas missile headed towards our forehead.
I’ve gotten a concussion before. It’s not fun. Especially with my garbage health insurance.
Okay, riding waves on the Pacific Ocean is a dangerous thing to do. But so is going to social events where literally nobody is wearing a mask anymore. Nobody talks about vax status. Nobody checks cards. A good chunk of the audience at Coachella is gonna get a permanent wheeze. Festival Flu my ass.
Thanks, I’d rather take my chances with the ocean. At least paddling *improves* my pulmonary health.
